Best Law Firm Rankings USA 2026: Tax and Private Wealth

Tax is the second US practice area – after Dispute Resolution – in which a specialist guide outscores both generalists outright. The neighbouring wealth and compliance areas split differently, and they split in ways a tax practice should know before allocating its submission budget.
Tax, Compliance, Private Wealth and Private Client – who leads?
ITR World Tax leads US Tax at 9.4, ahead of Legal 500 (9.3) and Chambers (9.2). Note the order: this is one of the few US areas where Legal 500 sits above Chambers. In Compliance, Legal 500 leads more clearly at 9.3 against 9.1 – a two-tenth gap, wide by the standards of this dataset.
The private wealth side reverses that. Chambers leads Private Wealth Law at 9.3 against 9.2, and Private Client at 9.2 against 9.1. Leaders League reaches 6.0 in Compliance – its highest score anywhere in the US data, and still more than three points below the leader.
