Chambers USA 2027: where are your best chances — 930 ranking tables analysed

Chambers USA 2027: 157 ranking tables close on 8 October

Most firms decide where to submit by asking which practice areas they are proud of. The more useful question is a different one: where is there room in the table itself? We analysed all 930 Chambers USA ranking tables.

2,450ranked US firms analysed
12,225band placements
930ranking tables scored
75locations, 272 practice areas

Two questions, two different answers

A firm that wants a Chambers ranking faces one of two situations, and they are not the same problem. Either it is not in the table at all and wants in — then what matters is how many firms are already crowded into each band. Or it is already ranked and wants to move up — then what matters is how the ranked firms are spread across the bands, and how thinly Band 1 is held.

These two readings often point in opposite directions. A table can look open at the entry level and tightly held at the top, and the reverse happens just as often. The index scores both separately for every table — and shows the underlying counts, so you can judge them yourself.

The index

Pick your state and practice area, or filter by submission wave to see only what is still open. Every row gives you the underlying counts — how many firms, how many bands, how they are distributed — not just a score. The 8 October wave covers 28 locations and 62 practice areas; 12 November is the largest single deadline of the cycle with 482 tables; 3 December is nationwide only and includes the tables Chambers labels “The Elite”.
