Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific 2027: one form per practice area – deadline Friday 23 October 2026

The Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific 2027 deadline falls on Friday 23 October 2026 – and it covers firms and client referees alike. The submission portals opened on 26 August 2026, there is no invitation to wait for, and there is no email route: Benchmark states plainly that “Due to GDPR compliance, we cannot accept submissions outside of the portal”. What most firms underestimate is the shape of the submission, not the date.

The sentence to read twice

“Late submission on client referees will not be entertained regardless of reason.”

Benchmark repeats it further down the page: “We do not accept late submissions for client referees.” The referee list is the part that depends on other people saying yes – and it is the part with no grace period at all.

Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific 2027 deadline 23 October 2026: how to take part

There is one route and it runs through the accreditation portal. Benchmark sets it out in three steps:

1 Download this year’s forms. Research form and client referee form come from Benchmark’s 2027 download page. Benchmark is emphatic: “DO NOT USE THE FORM AND LINKS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEARS.”
2 Complete the forms. One research form per practice area, one referee file for the whole firm.
3 Upload to the accreditation portal. An account is required first: “You will need to sign up for and register for an account on the accreditation portal before you can upload the submissions”.

One form per practice area – and exactly one referee file

This is the structural rule that catches firms out, and it points in two directions at once.

Research forms multiply. “Due to our submission portal requirements, you must submit SEPARATE research forms for each dispute resolution practice area (e.g. commercial and transactions, competition, international arbitration, white-collar crime etc).” A firm covering five practice areas in Singapore files five forms.

The referee file does not. “Each firm should submit only ONE referee excel form with all client details as we do not require practice area specifications.” When the portal asks for a practice area during that upload, any relevant one will do – the file attaches to the account, not to the category.

And the referee list has no ceiling: “There is NO LIMIT on the number of client referees you can submit.” Benchmark also says what happens next – “All client referees that are submitted will be contacted.” That is an argument for briefing your clients before you file, not after.

What belongs in the form

  • Up to 20 matters per practice area, “listing in order of importance or significance”.
  • A twelve-month window. “Case highlights must be ongoing or completed within the last 12 months. This time period should roughly cover August 2025 – October 2026.”
  • A confidentiality flag per matter. “If there is any confidential element to a matter, it will not be published.”
  • Awards nominations sit at the top of the same form – up to three cases per practice area, and “We will only consider the cases filled out in this section.”
  • File naming. FirmName_Jurisdiction_BMAP2027, or FirmName_Jurisdiction_PracticeArea_BMAP2027 when you file by practice area.

One line deserves attention before you upload: “We cannot guarantee any corrections or amendments to what you first submitted will be implemented.” Treat the first upload as the final one.

New in the 2027 cycle

The research form has grown. Benchmark names “three new sections: Firm profile & statistics, Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery, and Thought Leadership & Trends” – headcount, investment, strategy and market trends alongside the casework. Several ranking categories are new for 2027 as well, among them Insurance in India and Singapore, Construction in Indonesia and the Philippines, Insolvency, Insurance and Technology, data and privacy in Malaysia, Commercial and transactions in Nepal, and White-collar crime in Thailand.

What taking part is worth

Benchmark states it in one line: “No cost involved”. The effort is entirely internal – and with one form per practice area, it scales with the number of tables you want to be in. Alongside the submission there is a lawyer survey, open to all disputes practitioners, which closes on 31 December 2026. Two additional listings run off the same research: Top 100 Women in Litigation in Asia, and Top 40 Litigators under 40 in Asia, the latter nominated through the research form.

Work backwards. Five practice areas mean five forms, each with up to twenty matters, plus a single referee file whose contacts all need to know they will be called. If you have questions about a jurisdiction, Benchmark names the researcher for it on its methodology page: Candice Mak for India, Indonesia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam; Kelsey Li for Australia, China, China and Hong Kong SAR, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and the Philippines; Miao Sha for the Benchmark China regions and Taiwan.
