Law Business Ranking Opportunity Index©

In which practice areas firms have the best opportunities to enter the Chambers ranking for the first time, to move up, and — where already ranked — to expand into further practice areas.

For the Chambers Germany ranking, we show firms in concrete terms how to reach their ranking goals — in which practice areas a new entry, an advancement, and a cross-practice entry are most worthwhile.

The basis is the Law Business Ranking Opportunity Index© — a model we developed that translates ranking data into clear, actionable guidance.

Coming next: We are also analysing Legal 500, followed by JUVE and further top rankings using the same model. Sign up for our newsletter and you will be the first to know as soon as the next analysis is published.

Three strategies — and where they work

From the Chambers data for Germany, we have identified three strategies firms can use to reach their ranking goals. For each, we have created a dedicated table that shows the opportunities per practice area in concrete terms — distinguishing between firms of different sizes. Each card takes you straight to the relevant table.

Strategy 1
New Entry
Your firm is not yet ranked in a practice area and wants to break in for the first time. What matters: where is the competition thin?
What the index shows
In some practice areas the field is so sparsely populated that a new entry is far more realistic than elsewhere. The index shows where.
Strategy 2
Advancement
Your firm is already ranked and wants to move up a band. What matters: where is there room at the top, because the firms below are bunched up?
What the index shows
In some practice areas the top is surprisingly open — moving up is more realistic than you might think. The index shows where.
Strategy 3
Cross-Practice Entry
Your firm is ranked in one practice area and wants to enter others. What matters: which practice areas appear together at comparable firms? Select practice areas below → instantly see the easiest combinations.
What the index shows
Firms that are already ranked break into certain further practice areas particularly easily. The index shows which ones.
